The Novaks – Things Fall Apart

Well… I am very excited about this post and the release of this album. Newfoundland rockers “The Novaks” long-overdue follow-up release to 2005’s self-titled debut has finally dropped. Now, perhaps if you can think back all the way to 2005 you may recall The Novaks, they certainly had some radio/tv success and indeed did a cross-Canada tour opening for Sam Roberts, heck maybe you’ve even seen them. I fell in love with that record, enjoying all the rock-and-roll goodness it had to offer. The boys (Mick Davis (vocals, guitar), Mark Neary (vocals, bass) and Elliot Dicks (drums), don’t do anything zany or off the wall they simply play good, old fashioned, rock and roll and I love every minute of it.

I had the pleasure of going to University in Newfoundland and got a chance to see Davis perform solo several times (he had many weekly gigs on the infamous George Street). After some shuffling of the band over those four years Mick and the gang have graced us with “Things Fall Apart”. Again, another shot straight from the hip of rock which will should keep you interested from start to finish of this album. Perhaps over-shadowed by fellow St. John’ers “Hey Rosetta!” the boys forge on and with this release hopefully re-captured their position in the Canadian indie-rock scene.

I supect with some good touring, and some luck in terms of radio/tv this album will propel “The Novaks” to where they deserve to be. Let’s hope this blows the doors open for them and we see a third record from them before 2013… Check out their awesome song and the video for “There Goes the Night” here:
