Band of Skulls: UK’s Beautiful “Dead Weather” Twin

I am not sure about you, but for those of you who were on the White Stripes mailing list you had an avalanche of “The Dead Weather” updates and info piling up during the past few months leading up to their debut release. Now, don’t get me wrong I am a huge Jack White fan and I feel “Horehound” is an awesome disc — one I will probably put up here sometime soon… But this leads me into Southampton’s “Band of Skulls” (FKA “Fleeing New York”). This 3-piece outfit does a lot of what The Dead Weather does; an edgy, heavily blue-inspired sound but with a definite new and aggressive edge.

I too am a fan of a fan of The Black Keys, and as it was reviewed in Now Toronto by Paul Terefenko he opens his review with: “”Band of Skulls will leave Black Keys and Black Mountain fans pretty happy with this gratingly titled but strong classic rock/garage full-length” — and maybe this is why I enjoy this disc so much. Despite “how much it sounds like” the aforementioned bands it’s still a group most certainly worth checking out… but heck, in the words of LeVar Burton “But you don’t have to take my word for it” — decide yourself:

And what appears to be a very positive trend, the band has the whole album streaming online at their website – click here!
