Are You Afraid Of? (The Danks)

Well my first album post/review is finally here. I am going to kick off the new home of PrudentMusic. This disc just dropped a couple of weeks ago and it’s from the extremely fun, and highly addictive Danks. Hailing from Charlottetown two of the four members of this group are members of the hugely popular, and Polaris Prize nominated band “Two Hours Traffic“.

After releasing some demos and an EP the boys from PEI have blessed us with a summer gem, “Are You Afraid Of?”. The 12 song full-length debut is every bit as poppy and in your face as the Samples EP. I challenge you to listen to this whole album and not love at least 3-4 songs, if not the whole record. The hooks are catchy, Moore’s voice makes me jealous and the entire package is a firecracker.

I had the pleasure of seeing the boys, on a cold and blustery night in Halifax circa February 2008 at the famed Gus’s Pub opening for one of my Halifax fav’s “The Stance”. Not too often do I immediately fall in love with a band based purely on their live-show but The Danks did it. After a song or two I found myself floating to the front row and got not helped but be sucked in. Well a year and a half later, and alas this beauty has come to fruition. I also helped the guys out with a little website, you can see here.

Killbeat Music has “Are You Afraid Of?” in its entirety streaming here.
