In-Flight Safety show TONIGHT in Toronto @ El Mocambo

Well for all of you who have not had a chance to see a IFS show live, well now is your chance. Sure you’ve heard them all the time on CBC Radio 3 and maybe caught a youtube video or two, but really the live show is where it is at. This Halifax quartet make such good, and awe-inspiring music… from intricate slower songs, to my favorite’s they do which slowly build up on you and explode with sound. The guys formed at Mount Allison University (where I first met/saw them) in and around 2002/2004 and have since moved to Halifax and put out two full length albums (”Coast is Clear” and “We Are An Empire, My Dear”.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to them, do yourself a favor now. They have literally every track available on their CBC Radio 3 page.

And some great vids:

New Singles Galore! Them Crooked Vultures, LCD Soundsystem and Julian Casablancas

Well the past week has been bountiful for new music to posted online… here’s a good round-up from some highly anticipated new albums.

Them Crooked Vultures

The new super-group featuring Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters); Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age/Eagles of Death Metal) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)’s new album comes out November 17th. This is the first full-length song they’ve released! This should be a beauty of an album.

LCD Soundsystem

Well thank goodness DFA label owner James Murphy is up to it again. His last two albums (Self Titled and Sound of Silver) have been amongst some of the best and faves of critics and hipsters alike for the past few years. The single is called “Bye Bye Bayou” and is being released as a single on November 9th. The full length album is expected in.. March :( what a tease!

Julian Casablancas

Well “The Strokes” lead singer has been working on his solo project for a while… there’s been a few little leaks here and there over the past few months. The album “Phrazes for the Yonge” is coming out November 3rd (but has been leaked online as of Oct 26th). The first single, “11th Demension” is here… sounds pretty catchy!

There’s the roundup for now… keep tuned for more!

The Inaugural PrudentMusic Podcast feat. The Danks, Two Hours Traffic, Joel Plaskett and more!

prudentmusic_podcastHey all,
Well I finally had an epiphany and realized my longing to be back on the radio (having done college radio for 5ish years at CHMA 106.9FM at Mount Allison in beautiful Sackville, NB). So here’s my crack at the podcast world. The idea is to do at minimum a weekly podcast, but perhaps more, each with some sort of loose theme. Typically, but not always, featuring new Canadian music. I hope to give it a go and get listed on iTunes podcast directory an more.

So the first podcast features the likes of The Danks, Two Hours Traffic, Joel Plaskett, Thrush Hermit and The Superfriendz. It’s 30 minutes and I think you should give it a try, and not laugh at my rusty commentary style. I plan to smoke tons of smokes and drink lots of whiskey to get my voice to that desirable level.

So go ahead, check it out, and please share with your friends!
